Here are some placement guidelines we follow when placing a logo or name on a shirt, hat, towel, bag, head band and wrist band.

Caps, Hats, Beanies, Visors, Head and Wrist Bands

  • Designs can be placed front, back and on each side of a cap or hat.
  • If quantity permits then orders for specialty items like customization on the bill can be placed.

Shirt with no pocket

The logo location for a ladies shirt is 7 to 8 inches down, 4 to 6 inches from the center of the placket.  For a mans shirt it is 7.5 to 9 inches down, 4 to 6 inches from the center of the placket.  When putting a company's logo and a person's name on a shirt.

It is customary to place the logo on the left chest and the name on the right chest.  The rationale behind it is this:  When you shake hands your eye naturally falls to the other person's right shoulder area, making it easier to remember their name.

Shirt with a pocket

Center the design over the pocket with the design ¼ - 1 inch above the pocket.  If the design is a pocket topper then it should be placed as close to the pocket as possible, especially if it is intended to look as though it were coming out of the pocket.  Even if the pocket happens to be crooked it will give the illusion of being straight if the design is sewn in line with the pocket.

European style logo location is a front left bottom.  The bottom of the design should be 1 - ½ inch above stitching for the lower shirt hem.  Center of the design should be two thirds of the way from the center front to the outside left edge, roughly 7 inches from center.  Lettering should be ¼ to ½ inch tall.

Collar Point

Bottom of the design should be ¼ inch above the top of the button hole, if there is one.

Shirt Placket

The design will be centered between the second and third button holes.

Small designs of ¼ to 3/8 inches tall work best.

Shirt Pocket

Top of design or name should be placed ¼ to ½ inch down from the top edge of the pocket, and centered between the left and right edges. In certain circumstances a design maybe placed in the center of the pocket. Design height should be between ¼ and 3/8 inches tall.

Long Sleeve Cuff

The center of the design is 1 inch from the center of the cuff toward the buttonhole.  The bottom of the design should be ¼ inch above the seam stitching at the bottom edge of the cuff.  Design or letting is best when ¼ to 3/8 inches tall.

Turtleneck collar

  • The center of the design should be placed 1 to 2 inches from the center of the turtleneck.  The bottom of the design should be ½ to ¾ inches above the edge.
  • The design should be ¼ to 1 inches tall, depending upon the size of the collar.  The direction of the edge will be followed.  If the design is put on an angle it tends to look crooked.

On Hood of Sweatshirt

  • The design will be placed upside down, centered from left to right and within 1 inch of the casing so that the name or logo is right side up on the back of the sweatshirt when the hood is not worn.

COATS, JACKETS AND ROBES

Jacket – Left chest or right chest option

  • Center design straight down from where the shoulder seam meets the collar and from the center of the armhole.
  • Another option is to use the button or the snap second from the top as a guide.
  • Women’s – 7 to 8 inches down.
  • Men’s – 8 to 9 inches down.
  • The horizontal placement is usually 3.5 to 4 inches over from the center edge.
  • If there is only one design being embroidered then place it, whether it is a name or a logo on the left chest.  If there is a logo and name going on the jacket then the general rule is to place the logo on the left and the name on the right.  The rationale is that when people shake hands the eye falls on the right should area of the other person and they are more likely to remember the person’s name.

Jacket Back

  • Center design from left to right
  • Top of design should be 2 -3 inches below the bottom of the collar
  • If the jacket has a hood then the design will be placed lower so it will show when the hood is not being worn.
  • In general it will be place where it looks balanced on the jacket.

Robe

  • Place the design 4 – 6 inches down from the left shoulder seam and 3 – 5 inches over from the center.
  • The design can also be centered straight down from the seam where the collar meets the shoulder and from the center of the armhole.
  • If there are snaps or buttons, then the design could be centered between the armhole and the front center seam and level with the second button or snap.

Bag, Tote, Purse, etc.

  • Usual placement is 4 inches below the top edge, centered between straps.
  • Placement can be custom, if it can be hoped it can be embroidered.

Towels, Sheets and Blankets

  • Usual placement is centered at the bottom 4 – 5 inches from the edge or 2 – 3 inches from the border.
  • A large design of 3 – 4 inches tall maybe used as it looks best.
  • Often on a blanket the design will be set in the corner on a diagonal so that when the blanket is folded the design shows.

Golf Towel

  • The design is usually placed at the top center and at least 1 inch below the grommet.
  • Our suggestion is that if a company logo and a name are too placed on a golf towel as a promotional item or gift then the logo should go at the top center and the individual name should be placed at the bottom center.  There is generally less stitching in a name and the towel can still be used with minimal stiffness from the backing.
